Default RE: Backfire sh*t

Is this the first time it has ever back fired? At the time it backfired, what RPM was theengine at? Were you cranking on the throttle or just crusing? The causes for backfires usually indicate sometype of "lean spot" in the powerband. Vacuum and exhaust leaks can also be common culprits for backfires. Since you've owned the bike have you messed withthe carbs or done any jetting? A K&N filter alone won't cause any need for jetting.

firstof all it backfired like three times and then it stopped for thatentire ride and this was a first for me.it backfired after i puled in the clutch when slowing down. i was just on a city street only going 25-30mph i have only cleaned the cards since i had it. i most likly have an intake leak and the exhaust gaskets need to be replaced. just tell me what to start looking at and i'll go
thanks again for the help

I doubt your exhaust gaskets are bad. They will usually last the entire life of your bike. How does your bike run as in terms of performance? My only suggestion would be to keep riding it and find out more about it before you digging for something that may not even need fixed.

my bike backfires a lot when im on it, then let off (engine breaking) but it's not super loud.

could that be bad?I figure maybe just running a bit rich.

Maybe something in your carb is a little sticky, and it's staying open (rich) when you let off, and causing the backfire.

that is more than likely going to be caused by damaged air cut off valves. You have 4 of them one on each carb. They have a cap over them that are help in place by 2 phillips head screws. You have to take the bank apart, break it down to the individual carbs, to replace them. They are engineered to reduce/eliminate backfire upon letting off of throttle or deceleration/
