Roger, I opened one up today but am waiting until I get home to clean them. Thinking the ridiculously shorter needle screw in one carb was really messing things up.

 

Yup a bad needle would make it run funny, but I think it might start since the needle comes into play more as the throttle is opening up, and it's only one carb out of three. Sounds like you may have problems in the passages that are in play at idle when the bike is cold. That's gonna be pilot jet and choke enrichment circuit passages. If they are gunked up it's probably not going to start.

 

Need some help guys, anyone know a place on this Earth that I can find pilot screws for this bike???

I found plenty of websites claiming they were in stock and prepared to take my money, then a phone call uncovered that they had no way of getting them.

My last chance is a company in the UK that is calling me back tomorrow.

This might work, but I don't know that with any certainty. I think the listing description is probably wrong and it's just for a VFR700, as the VFR750 screws look like the later F2/F3 screws. I suspect that later screw is what your bad screw really is.

I did see those shorter screws, but I think that is what the last owner tried.

So on the way home on a road trip today I emailed about 10 bike salvage places and got a hit back from bikeboneyard.com. He sold me one for fifteen bucks!

Phew ok it's been awhile!


Took a LONG time to get the correct fuel air screw for these carbs. I ordered one from a salvage place online, but when it arrived it had been torn from the envelope. They sent out another and it arrived yesterday. By then I had already taken the carbs back apart, cleaned out everything discussed here, bench synched them and re-profiled/slotted the other pilot screw I nearly destroyed removing.


The whole assembly is sitting on my kitchen table ready to go back on the bike! Unfortunately my truck's front differential and her upper a-arm messing up have forced me to wrench on other things as of late, but hoping to get back to this soon!

 

Hang in there, you'll get there. My RR bike took almost 3 years :-)
