Default 87 CBR 600 Fork oil change

Looking for input regarding fork oil change.

How often do you service your forks?
Did you rebuild them, or just change the oil?
Which oil did you use (type, weight, amount)?

Any suggestions for the service. Did you leave the forks on the bike, remove them, or just drain from the bottom plug?

thanks-

It's possible to change just the oil without removing them from the bike by either draining them from the bottom or using a suction device from the top. I prefer to remove and disassemble the forks because it's a better method and you can inspect & clean everything inside when you have them apart. The oil gets nasty pretty quickly, and leaves a film of dirty junk all over the springs and other internals which should be cleaned off. The service manual has a step by step instruction for disassembling/cleaning/refilling the fluid. You have to measure from the top of the fork tube when refilling to get the proper level.

There are a couple serviceable bushings in the forks that may also need to be replaced if they are worn, in addition to the fork seals. The factory fork oil weight I believe is 10w, it also says in the manual. I run 15w in mine but I need the extra damping because my fork springs are almost double the spring rate of the stock springs.
