Cool 1990 hurricane issues

I have a 1990 cane with a couple of issues. First I have a leaking fork seal on the left fork. How tough is it to do the repair myself. I have a compressor and air ratchet so the loctite bolt shouldn't be an issue. Any tips?
Also I have been having an issue with my headlight. both high and low beams are working, however it is not very bright much of the time. After about 35 freeway miles or so it will start burning more brightly off and on. Any particular spot in the wiring I should look or do I just need to start tracing the harness from the bulb back? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

forks are easy, follow the manual and you shouldn't have any problems. you can use a piece of PVC pipe to drive the lower fork seal into the slider.

for the headlight, i would check the switch at the bar, make sure there isn't any corrosion in it. check for corrosion in the headlight plug at the bulb, the headlight switch plug near the fuse block, and maybe the fuse. you might also check the voltage at the battery with the bike running.
if your electrical harness has electrical tape on it, then i would take off the tape and inspect it.

Before you take the fork apart remove the bolt at the bottom of the fork. It is much easier to do this way

Check your battery. It sounds like it may be low and sucking a lot of the charge when you first start out.

You may also have a charging system problem. Check the troubleshooting part of a manual to see if it gives you any tips.
