Default 1989 Cane Coolant system Questions

Hi all.

I have no original dash, and a manual switch for the cooling fan. Its been fighter-ed and i guess there was a prob with the auto switch in the past.. anyways, i don't mind the manual switch, in fact i kinda like it, but i want to get a decent coolant temp gauge on it to monitor the motor. So depending on the route i take i need answers to some easy Q ..

Route 1) use original temp sender hole near thermostat, and buy a gauge that has a sensor with the same thread.. Q= what thread is this sensor?

Route 2) buy an inline temp sensor housing that you splice into a cooling pipe, then i can choose sensor size. Q= what is the inside diameter of the coolant pipes?

I prefer route 1 as i can use existing sensor mount and wiring and dont need to cut the pipes!

Thanks all!

Most temp gauges work the same way. You may be able to use the stock sensor with and aftermarket gauge. It will be hard to figure out what thread the sensor is other than bring it to someone who has a thread gauge. I don't think it is in the specs anywhere. Might be a standard pipe thread...don't know.n

Standard pipe thread I believe, 1/4-20npt.
HOWEVER, when I changed mine and chased the threads it was 10 years ago, so your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the info.. The aftermarket ones all seem to be that size.. Guess its standard on most vehicles. Cheers!!
