I followed your link and must say, man I am impressed. You have done an amazing job so far and I look forward to seeing you finish. I'm in the process of doing thi same conversion on my f2. I got a really good deal on the fairings, so figured why not. Your detailed explanations, and pictures have helped me in my planning of mounts and alignment issues. Gave me new ways of approaching issues. Thanks, and good work!!

Thanks for the positive comments.

The RR conversion project is a little side tracked right now. I have purchased 3 more CBR's, a Honda Shadow Aero, a Honda Trike, a Kawasaki Vulcan and just over the past month a 1975 Norton 850 Commando.

Some of these are riders, and some are projects. I am trying to set up my new shop with paint booth and powder coating and that has taken me away from finishing the RR conversion. The bike is basically ready for paint and I have all the new parts to put it together, just need to get the shop done so I can work on it.

This one should be really nice when I get it done. Basically everything will be new. I put a lot more money into it than I expected to tho :-)

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

BTW, the F2 will be a little different than the F1...could be easier, because I think the F2 is a little skinnier width wise. This was one of the problems with the F1 because by 2003 the bikes were smaller and skinnier.

We always end up putting more money in then anticipated :-) I appreciate the offer for help and will most definitely keep you in mind. I agree thinking the f2 is a little skinnier. I thew the front and left fairing on using your zip tie method to check placement, and seems to me I may need to slot the mount on the neck to move it back and up slightly. I like the more exposed frame look too. And there in lies rub. Not to thread jack, but I posted pics in my thread in my sig. if you care to have a peek and share your opinion.

cds83,

Thanks for the positive comments. Hope you get your tail done and what I posted helps.

The CBR is still waiting for me to get back to it because I am in the process of moving. It's a little frustrating because everything is ready to go with the exception of paint. I hope to finish it before the summer is over here in Minnesota/Wisc.

Well with the fit and tank angle on the Hurricane the 2003-04 RR tail is still one of the best choices and it looks great on the Canes. Older tails are bigger and the 2005-06 tail is a little different in terms of fit. Newer than that and I don't think it will work unless you cut off the subframe and mount the newer one to the bike.

I haven't updated this thread in a while. I've been quite busy with getting my house back in my recent divorce and working on getting my new shop set up. The CBR took a little bit of a back seat to the 1975 Norton I picked up which is one of my dream bikes. Here's a pic of it.

I so far have completely rebuilt the front end of the bike with all new parts and billet yokes custom made for 1" bars so I could use up dated controls. I also fabricated a custom billet dash with voltmeter, ignition and lights. I added adjustable dampers to bring the Norton suspension into the 21st century.

Sorry to high jack my own thread but wanted to let people know that the CBR is still on the project list but multiple projects made it difficult to finish. I hope to get back on it over the winter.

Very nice Norton! Nice work on the dash & upgrades too it looks good. I bet it is a great bike to ride with the updated controls and suspension.

Hi Tahoe,

I haven't actually rode it yet. When I got it hadn't run in 10 years and the carbs were laying on the engine cases.

I put a Mikuni flat slide carb on it, electronic ignition and changed the oil, plugs and put a battery in. It fired up on the second kick. These old bikes are kick start...although it is electric start...missing starter. The PO told me the engine was rebuilt about 1000 miles ago...once I got it running I verified the engine is sound. Tranny shifts through gears and seems okay although will tear it down to verify.

I bought one of these back in 76' new and they are a blast to ride. One of the best handling bikes of the day...very powerful too. With the upgraded suspension it should handle even better. I am upgrading the brakes also. It will look basically stock with a few upgrades similar to what Colorado Norton Works does to the stock bikes.
