Your CBR knowledge is requested!
Hello everyone. I finally joined prior to lurking for the past few months. I’m in the market for a new bike. My previous bikes was an 04 R1 which I loved. I’ve always liked Hondas (I’ve own an Accord and now a Ridgeline) but I’ve never had a Honda Motorcycle. Right now I’m thinking over my options and have found that I can get a brand new 06 1000RR for $9,999 OTD (socal). I know that the 07 is the same except for the black swing arm and BNG so I prefer the 06. I also realize this is a CBR forum but I would really appreciate your thoughts as to why I should pull the trigger. What's the good and bad points of this bike. The 04 R1 bad points were: a bit lacking in low end, and the seat got hot sometimes. Good was: Very comfortable, easy to ride, looked great and good top end power.
Thanks everyone!
Thanks everyone!
The RR will put more thrust (pulling force) to the rear tire in first gear that any other open class bikes- by nearly 200lbs of force. This is due mainly to the lower gearing. The downfall to this is that 1st will redline closer to 70mph instead of 100mph. I don’t feel much of a need to see 100mph in first, do you? I like having more power at lower speeds.
The bike is fairly comfortable for a man of average height and weight. Taller riders usually prefer the R1's ergonomics.
Handling is unbelievable and the bike tracks like it is on rails. I love the HESD steering dampener. Honda’s are known to be a little more “user friendly” than the competition and typically pays more attention to detail with fit and finish (compare the welds of an RR to a gixxer)
I have absolutely no regrets with my purchase, but it really comes down to what you are looking for. Any of the open class bikes perform better than 99% of the riders reading this forum (including myself) could ever tap. Bottom line, go with the one that draws you in.
Also, I never got hot under the seat with the CBR and I still have a stock exhaust. I really can't think of a downfall for the bike other than the fact that I wish both headlights would light at all times - with or with-out brights. IMO - The R1 has the best looking headlights.

I got mine a little over a month ago from LA cycles. So far it's been great the power is awesome but, I'm coming from a 92 FZR600 (witch I rode the other day and boy is it slow now) My only complaint is the shifting seams to be a little notchy. My milage is great 42-46 the chassis is stiffer than the FZR but, my corner speeds are up, so stiff is better. I do wish my plates would come in so the freeway asshats will stop messing with me. I work at March AFB and we have to wear refective vest to drive on the base, reflective vest plus dealer plate equals new rider...........we must scare him...he he he he
I think that we should get part of the commision everytime someone post the "WHy should i buy a 1000rr" thread. Honda should b givin us some free stuff or somethin lol
Thanks for the replies fellas. Well, I went ahead and bought one over the weekend! I’ll write up a little “first impressions” when I get more time on it. I’d like to get an exhaust system for it and will probably pick up an Akrapovic soon.
