Default for the wheelie guys

i havent really tried seriously wheelies ok my 1k yet, just letting in come up a bit on hard downhills and during hard acceleration but im wondering...what rpm do you normally clutch up a wheelie at. i was talkin to a buddy of mine just now and he said in second he slips the clutch and is at about 11k...that seems like to much to me but maybe im wrong

If I was going to do that. I'd take a class first -- with one of those throttle cutoff devices like they had in that episode of "Superbikes" on the speed channel. It's a lot cheaper than replacing parts.

Hobbs are you in first or second? I have tried the same trick in second and mine just cant seem to get the front tire up. I only have 800 miles and am goin to try to hold off for a few hundred more before I really start floggin it. I also am planning on going 2 teeth larger on the rear sprocket. That always seems to bring the bikes to life.

if your lifting at 3000 with no clutch it has to be in first. as for second i have to clutch it at round 4500 to 5000. or no clutch at 8000 and above. no need to be anywhere near 11???

In first gear u dont need a clutch. Get the rmps to bout 6k let off the gas for a split second then gun it and hold on...it comes up real fast. I havent gotten it up to the balance point yet (where u c people ridin a wheelie for miles) but im close. Def cover the back brake when ur doin this and dont just dump the throttle when u had to much cause then u will come back down real hard and maybe get a lil crossed up and end up dumpin the bike. When ur startin to come down after lettin go, rev the throttle once and hold it open. The bike will come down a hell of alot softer and it wont do as much damage to ur front suspension. After a while of gettin this down, then i would try second gear. Ive been tryin it lately and the way ive been gettin it up is takin it up to 60mph, pull the clutch wit one finger just till it disengages and still b gunnin the throttle then let go of the clutch and hold on. Second gear wheelies r def smoother and easier to ride out...seems like they come down alot more naturaly.

guess im just slightly scared. i wheelie quads for miles and have wheelied a dirtbike once but the throttle is just so touchy. so say im goin in second and get to like 4,000 rpms, just stay at steady throttle and slip the clutch or gun it and slip the clutch ?

i wouldnt even try it in second till i know how to get it up in first. but if u really wanna know just do like i said...take it up to 2nd gear and be doin bout 60. Disengage the clutch wit just ur index finger while still holding the throttle open and just wait a second or so and let go of the clutch. dont let it out all nice and ****e just pop it. if that dont get it up then u need to use more throttle. u kinda just have to play wit it for a min. takes some practice. def practice in first gear at least so u know the feelin on the bike and the sounds it makes and what not. its not like an exact science to this wit u know at 4k rpms if u do this and this its gonna come up...its diff for everybike. kinda got fly by the seat of ur pants if u know what i mean

P.S.
Dont 4get to cover the back brake...it keeps u from goin to far back and doin a 12:00 wheelie which u probly aint ready for just yet
