Default Sitting too long??

Hey everyone. I am picking up my first 2006 1000rr next week. The previous owner had to leave it sit for the past 1.5 - 2 years. It has been in a garage, but still a long time to sit. I figured I would have to change the gas and battery, but is there anything else I should do before firing it back up? And does anyone think there might be problems after sitting for a long period of time?

Default long time to sit

First off congrats on the 1000RR, post some pics as soon as you can.

If it has not been started in 1.5 to 2 years there could be a couple of things wrong. I was away from my bike on and off for 4 years, periods of 8-12 months at a time. The gas tanks are not sealed so if there was gas left in it, it could cause the inside to rust/get gunky and those particles could clog your fuel injectors. I had to replace mine after it sat for about 12 months, my father started it and ran it every now and again but obviously not frequent enough. I would change the spark plugs, i didn't see where you are from but I know people who live down south, or in areas where wasps/yellow jackets are and they have had wasps nests in their intake. If the garage it was in was well sealed and not like a barn it would reduce the chance of wasps. There shouldn't be any gas left, it would've evaporated.

I am by no means an expert, this is just what has happened to me or people I know.

ahhh!! I really hope my gas tank is not ruined. The garage it was in was a well sealed heated garage. So most of that should not happen. And I will post pics as soon as I get it ready to go.

Unless he had it up on stands the entire time, the tires are prolly shot. They'll have prolly formed a flat spot.

If she sat with gas, don't start it until you drain and carefully inspect the tank. No point drawing gunk into the fuel system, causing problems, when it's easy to avoid it entirely. Replace the fuel filter and air filter.

Yeah I figured I would give it a full tune up first and will check the gas tank. As you said, there is no point in possibly ruining a great bike because of something small. Thanks everyone for the advice, I'll let you know how it works out as soon as I get it.
