Default Rear Sprocket question

Hey out there,
Does anyone know if i can change the rear 40t to a 42T and still use the original chain? Do not want to order the sprocket and find it makes the original chain to short!
Or am i better off changing down one on the front to a 15t?
Thought a nice gold rear might look cool!
Any thoughts? I want to keep those R1's honest! (lies, want to go past them!!!)

15 Tooth front is the quickest easiest way and by far the cheapest... Done the mod you will not look back after you have done it ...Dont forget your sppedo will read faster than you are doing

You can use the stock chain with a 15 tooth front or a 42 rear, but unless it`s recently new it`s a better idea to change chain and sprocks together or they`ll both wear faster.

Bike has only done 8000. Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated!
Once the chain is worn will do the 520 conversion.

if your going to do a 520 conversion it's better to wait and do it all at once, you can get a good deal if you get it all at once (in the little over 120.00 range) if you do just get a 15 tooth front spocket it's about 20 bucks and a new chain is about 85.00, plus the 15 tooth sprocket you bought won't work with the 520 kit, just get the 520 conversion -1front/+2back and put it all on at once and your bike will blow your mind.

the latest addition of motorcycle news here in oz has just done a road test on the 06 model and found that the single biggest improvement was the 42 tooth rear sprocket,i changed my 05 model rear sprocket 2 days ago to the 42 tooth and found it to also be a big improvement.

thanks
Exactly what I needed to know ,an aussie spec bike and the standard chain fits!
My dealer told me he did not think it would fit.
