what size socket do I need to loose up the bolt on the axle for the rear (mm)

I have no shame in admitting that when I didn't already own the right one, I set a cresent wrench to the right size, then went to sears and dug through the sockets utill I found the right one!

dial calipers
they work wonders in situations like that
