My 98 CBR900 had a similar problem. I replaced the stator, but it wasn't at fault, it was the Regulator Rectifier. Be sure to have the system checked so you are not spending uneccessary amounts of $$

For the 98, a surefire way to tell if the stator was the problem was by ensuring the 3 wires coming out of the stator did NOT ground out (using a mulitmeter). They can have continuety with each other, but not the ground. grounded wire = bad stator. Again I want to point out that the test was for a 98 and I have not tested my 06 at this time, but you should have the same or similar results.

Had mine replaced last year at dealer. The warranty just ran out. did some research and found out it was a defect on the 04 and 05 1krr.It"s turns out it was not the stator but the magnets on the fly wheel. The polarityis to much for the stator and burned it out. Honda covered the hole thing. They also said it didn't warrant a recall because it only happened to about 30% of bikes in those years.

I found this site for aftermarker stator. This is the company that I used when I replaced the stator in my CBR 900RR. It was the best pirce I found at the time for NEW stators

Honda built us a crappy bike and thinks by putting the same crappy parts right back into it we'll be fine with that. The whole electrical system in the bike is a joke. Mine is on it's second complete burnout since the warranty extension. All I do is spend my days fighting with a nobody on the phone about the junk bike. Easy answer is don't buy another Honda. Which is what i'll be doing. Ex Lifelong Honda Rider

I hope I don't have that problem. Hopefully, they'll have my bike fixed. They just ordered the kit for me. I only have two to three starts before its dead. As much as I love the bike, I doubt I'll buy another one especially since my first two bikes, both Kawi's, never let me down and I rode the crap out of them....

+1

I had a ZX-9R for 9 years and it was a reliability hero.It even had a functionalcam chain tensioner! I feel like an *** for selling it, but I really couldn't justify owning both bikes.

So has this issue been resolved in the 07-08 bikes, as far as anyone knows, or should I just stick with Gixxer bikes instead of buying a CBR ?

I thinka few'06 and '07 CBR1000R owners have had charging system problems. If charging system performance is a big concernto you, I'd consider another brand...

Reliability is abig concern. I expectmyCBRto start everytime, but I'd expect that from any bike....
