Default Power Commander Required?

Just called for an install price for a bolt on RS-5 and the guy told me he won't do it without a power commander because it won't run right. Is this true or is he smoking crack out his crack?

Edumacate me on the RS-5 -- is it a slip on or a full system? Just a slip-on I'd recommend buying it and doing it yourself - power commander optional. Full system I'd say go ahead and get the PCIII and have it mapped -- ya, I know that's adding another $500 to the price but a dyno tuned bike is sooooooo damn sweet.

It is just a slip on. I would do it myself but there are things I just do not know. For instance what is this box attached to the exhaust and do most after market CBR 1000 exhausts have bolt ons for this thing? Which pieces of the shiled do I remove permenantly? What else do I need to know?

It will run fine without the PC , it will run better with it .

Oh , and the RS5 should come with a big sheet of heat reflective tape , so you can toss the aluminum heat shield.

The box with the cables is a flapper for the exhaust. Cables run to a servo under the tank on the left side. Just remove the cables -- do not remove or unplug the servo or it'll run like crap. I need to look into a way to bypass that. Anyway, which pieces to chuck and which to keep is a personal choice. I modded the brown-speckally plastic piece and some other stuff because it's how I like it. A lot of peeps chuck it all. Before you begin removing stuff have a plan and a good idea of what you want it to look like.

The bike will run rich with this slip-on (go figure) so it will not hurt your bike , after I installed a PC3 , loaded a map and turned on the Accelerator Pump mod it rode like a different bike (smooth with a ton of power)
I still have plans on getting a custom map to wring out every last HP , I just dont have the $405.93 to put the bike on a dyno right now.

It keeps the A/F ratio from spiking lean when the throttle is abruptly opened.

I'm at 75% sensiivity, 20% fuel add & 20 rotations.
