Over Heating problem. Please guide me friends!
It is currently 72 degrees in Washington State.
I have a 04 1000rr with 15k miles. Yoshi, Commander, Flapper Mod, etc
I traded it in with my 954rr 2 weeks ago.
Two weeks ago it was even hotter, in the 80's but i never noticed the problem.
I will start the bike up to warm up and I noticed that from 180f, it will increase to 200 at the same pace as a clock. When I would ride on the street, it would stay at 200 and at stop light, it would quickly get in to 215.
If i'm waiting at the stop light for more than a couple minutes then it will slowly rise to 227 and the fan would kick in.
Once the fan kicks in, it will stay at 229 and will not budge at all.
I took it on the freeway and it slowly started dropping and stayed at 180 the whole time I was on freeway. Right when I got off, it took less than a minute to get back in to 200 and then 210 and 225. It never went passed 229 ever.
This is getting me worried.
The only thing I did to the bike was that I accidently pressed the "High" button on the power commander when the bike was on. Does that have anything to do with it? I took it to the guy from whom I bought it and he said that the commander was custom tuned and that 1000rr are supposed to run that high.
I touched the lower fairings and they were boiling hot.
I recall when I use to have 954rr, it would only get this hot to the point where i could feel like in my legs when it was over 95F temperature, never in the 70's.
Any suggestions? Is it still safe to ride on the street or freeway or neither? and how to address or fix this issue? Thanks

I must have missed this thread when the OP posted it. Your heating problem doesn't sound like a problem at all. My '08 will run at over 200*F in traffic. On the open highway it will be 172-180*F, unless I'm behind a large vehicle blocking the airflow and then it'll creep up to 200*.
You can lower the city riding temp with a manual fan switch. I posted a how-to article on the procedure elsewhere in the 1000RR section. It was written for the '08 with two fans but the method is mostly the same for yours.
