Newbie With Questions on an 04
I am new to the forum and have a couple questions on a Black 2004 CBR 1000 RR I may purchase.
It has been down on the left hand side by a friend of mine. He was going about 25 MPH and hit some sand. This was his first bike and he should have never been on it. He has not ridden it since. I have had bikes for about 14 years now and when I rode the 1000 I was in heaven. 2nd gear roll on wheelies no prob at all
.
The left side plastic (3 Pieces I think in the front left Upper, Middle and Lower) and the rear left rear platic piece located where the rear seat is. Where is the least expensive place to get stock replacement pieces? I checked the classifieds here and EBay but there are non-for sale now that are black. I was just trying to get an idea what all 4 pieces would cost? Honda dealer is telling me about $1,800.
Second question is: It is a 2004 with about 300 miles on it. I am paying $4k for it but have to fix the plastic (4 Pieces I Believe). Do you think after the cost of the plastic, mirror and directionals I will be into for more than it is worth?
I know luxury items like bikes have really taken a hit. I currently own a 2003 V-Rod I paid 18K for which I would be lucky to get $11,500 and it is mint.
I have always had sport bikes and sold my GSX-R 750 a year ago and miss the days of cornering hard. The V-Rod is great for it’s low end TQ off the line. You can hold it at 6K drop the clutch and you are gone. But in a sec or two the sport bikes are rolling past.
Final question is the other option I can go is with a 2004 GSX-R 750, which is mint with 2,500 miles for $4,100.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I will have to take another look at the damage and see how deep it is. He is susposed to send some pics today so I will post them if I can. I really wanted it to look brand new again. Think it would with fiberglass repair? I guess I could ask the body shop I use if they could make it look new again.
$4k for an 04. Sounds like a pretty good deal. If u go to Ron Ayers.com they have pretty good pricing, u will spend less than 1k for the body work and it comes straight from Honda. As far as the lights, just get some flushmounts for like $30 or so and they will look great. And look on ebay for mirrors, i got mine for less bout $20. Ill bet u could spend less than 1k to fix it up to where its lookin minty if u do all the work yourself. And if u can glass the body u will save alot more money
Ohh left side not good !! 1kRR's have the water pump and misc water lines on that side that if broken big big coin!!! like remove engine to fix!! Not to scare you but i'd ask if it runs to check those lines for leaks !!
Good luck this is just my .02

u would c if its leakin, plus im sure a couple lights would come on. u could just replace the plastics urself if u by new ones, not that hard to unscrew the bolts and put the new ones on. better than takin it to a dealership and gettin charged their labor costs

Good catch ty. It does run. If I start it and let it run for a while I assume I will see if it is leaking? Or do you have to pull the plastic?
Thanks Again

o4 with 300 miles on it for that price. what a bad deal. give me his number so i can ask him what his problem is. wink wink. man for real you better take advantage of that deal. unless the engine needs replacing it is a good deal. you can do all the work your self and laugh in the summer when you tell everyone what a deal you got
