Default New owner 2009 Repsol

Morning everyone,

Well everytime I get a new bike I always register to the forum.. GOBBS of info in these things..

Bike:
2009 CBR1000RR ABS Repsol - 4000mi

Me:
Ken, 31yo, male, riding 14 years, but first sport bike

The bike is due for a 4000mi service, so far I've only found one post inquiring about the 4k service and if it's necessary to really bring it in.

I'm one of those guys, that gets really really nervous about letting anyone else touch a wrench to my bike so I was just wondering if anyone here has a dealer 4k service checklist. I assume it's mainly oil, coolant, check brake fluid, check chain tension, and general overall examination of the bike. I'd really like to have a list to go off of though. P.O. is mailing me the owners manual, so at the moment I don't have that to reference.

Another question I have, I'd like to switch to syn oil, but not sure if 4000mi is too soon, I've read about people switching at 1000mi, 4000mi, and some waiting till 8000. (oil I have in mind is Repsol 4T full syn 10W40, but open to suggestion), haven't decided on a filter yet.

When I checked the oil last night, (last known oil change at 600mi) I was VERY relieved to see a full crankcase of reletively clean oil, as I have heard that some of these bikes are prone to burning.

Anyway, I know there a lot of you that have a lot more experience with these machines than I do, so hopefully we'll be able to help each other out.

Thanks

Id start by checking All fluids, air filter, cables, nuts and bolts, chain, swing arm for play, forks for any play, tire pressure, lube, oil and oil filter, leaks, overflow tank, any leaks from valve cover and then ride the hell out of it. besides oil and a oil filter all else is FREE. Learn to do your own work and invest in a shop manual. It's not hard at all. Good luck and nice bike. I've always liked the Repsol.

Beautiful bike. Congrats.

Get yourself a factory service manual. It will have all the mileage increments for maintenance. There's a link to an online pdf here on the forum somewhere.

Welcome to the forum.

Congrats on the awesome bike. At 4K miles you really don't have anything to worry about. You know what I did for my 4K mile check up....Put gas in it and rode the hell out of it. You can switch to synthetic at 4k. Actually the rule of thumb is break it in with regular oil then you can switch to synthetic after 600 miles. Honda's are tanks so with proper maintenance they will last forever. There is a F4i on this forum with over 200K miles, yes you read that right, and all that has been done is basic maintenance. Download a service manual and it will tell you what to inspect/change at what mileage. Now get out there and ride.

Did they change the tail from the 08 to the 09? I have an 08 with the slightly taller tail. I love how this tail looks by coming to a thin point in the rear. Any way to convert? Do I just have to buy the 09 tail? and if so, does the 09 black match the LE 2008 black? Bike looks good, don't mean to hijack your thread.

08&09 are the exact same bike. It is probably the angle of the pic that makes it look like that.
