There's a lot of details to take into consideration when tearing machines apart no matter how small a job. Just make sure you're in a good frame of mind when tackling this stuff - not mad, no hangovers, not stressed, not tired, etc..........that is a very narrow window of life when you're not experiencing any of these! The fact that you solved your own problem is pretty good - not quite the dumbass.
