The 06 is cool but it is not that much faster. I run my CBR RR 1000 Repsol at the drags it has run a 10.001 at 121mph. The test bike with a pro ran 10.2
There has already been a bike test on the 06 1000RR? Where did you see this write up?

Even the Honda riders at the Daytona Tire Test last week did not have access to the 06's yet, which by the way seems ridiculous if you as me. It seemed all the other factory riders had their new bikes. I hope Honda gives some quality track time to their riders soon.

I was hoping that Honda would put a competitive engine in it for '06 but that didn't happen... probably never will knowing honda's history.

My '04 is nearly paid off and I'm keeping all options open (including other manufacturers) for the '07/08 model year when I plan to buy a new bike.

[sm=dontgetit.gif] What the hell rock you been hiding under? My '04 has kept up with or passed a lot of liter bikes on the road. I'll admit that I thought it was kinda slow in the beginning (I was going from a turbo Busa to a 1000RR) but after a year on it I've found it's got really usable power all over the place. And it stays planted exiting sharp corners so I can keep feeding it power while the gixxers are letting off.

[sm=funnypostabove.gif] i knew it wouldn't be long before a response to hiside. sounds like a future kawasaki rider to me. they are the "fastest" when looking at stats alone.

I want to know where everyone is getting their stats to compare the 05's and 06's since Honda has not released any 06 info yet in regards to HP and dry weight.

The '06 stats are plastured all over the european websites. search on google.

I rode a guy from work's GSXR 1000 and I could definitely feel the extra power. I suppose if I raced on a track the hondas ability to apply power earlier may be an issue, but its not a priority to me.

Why do honda people get so defensive about a comment on low engine power in the first place... chill out. It's a great bike that just needs a new motor.

Give me metalscorpio's motor for example.....

Uhhh.... Who is being defensive?

I have also seen the European stats. I was wondering if the US stats have been released yet. If Honda handles the release of the 06 1000RR like they did the 05 600RR they are sandbagging the performance stats and they will be better. That is at least what I am hoping for.

its not the fact that honda's make low power. everyone knows that the other manufacturer's bikes make more peak stock horsepower. the statement that is offensive is that remark that you made about honda not making a competitive engine. more horsepower does not always mean faster. its how the engine develops it's power and how that power helps/hurts the chassis in it's ability to accelerate and turn.

magazine's always rank the honda last when comparing the current liter bikes. they state stuff like "no thrill factor" and say that it is the easiest to ride. some people take these comments as slow performance. i take it as planted and predictable, which is what i want in a bike. if i wanted to ride a bike that would scare the crap out of me with headshake and constant uncontrollable wheelies, i would buy a kawasaki. those things give you one hell of an aerobic workout fighting the bike. if i wanted a bike thats fast but unreliable, i would buy a suzuki or yamaha. but i ride a honda because of it's predictable nature and ability to go fast without beating me to death.

and yes, metalscorpio has one incredible bike.

That none of the manufacturers can touch HP wise in '06. As for comparo's NINE2NINE is right on the money -- sure the other guys have more stock HP and if you just want braggin rights then I guess that's what you should buy. I remember when the 10 came out and the mags kept calling it a 185HP beast -- well they forgot to mention that was with ram air -- a very hard to measure statistic indeed.

If you like wheelies then the 10 or the gixxer is what you want. A guy at work has a 10 and he can bring that sucker up in a blink. But his extra 2HP don't mean **** when it comes to riding -- it's just not fair what my bor...(yaaaaawnnnn)...ing *** Honda does to him. Another friend has a gixxer. He rides semi-pro and I can keep up with him but can't pass him. But that's not my bike's fault -- I'm just not as good a rider. Out of 6 or so "competitions" I've beaten him twice but 95% of the time we just ride for fun.

Not being defensive -- just wondering what you'd consider "competitive". In the end ya gotta buy what you like best. I'm an old fart so predictable, reliable, planted power means I can concentrate on other things.

Fact of the matter is that all the liter bikes provide more than adequate driveability with their computer controlled fuel injection that controlling power delivery ON THE STREET isn't an issue. On the track, banked over to the limit, yeah ok maybe there's a difference. But I doubt that any one reading this is that good to take advantage of that difference. I certainly cant. But I do go to full throttle and wish I had more. It's not about bragging rights cause the only people I ride with is my wife. The Zook just has more squirt than the Honda and I happen to like the acceleration.

What's competitive from a power perspective? That's an ever changing question. Problem is the Honda's offering is never at or near the top. Honda's current engine is about equivalent to an '03 Suzuki. Another 10hp and 1500rpm would make it competitive today, but not 3 years from now. Most stock hondas are running about 145rwhp, K5 Suzuki 155rwhp. Yeah some are higher, some are lower, but on average this is fairly representative of both bikes. With pipes/PCs, add another 10-15hp for both. 10hp is a noticeable difference especially when saddled with 25-30 extra pounds (equivalent to another 5-6hp given the power/weight ratios we're talking here). I happen to like the honda quality which is why I've purchased them. I don't think they'd have to sacrifice any of the handling or quality to provide a best-in-class output engine which is why I get somewhat frustrated. This is my opinion and your may vary.
