I have an 04 stock, and after a minute of topping out the bike my right foot was being cooked, itwas unbearable,I had to move my foot as far away from the bike asI could and still could feel a lot of heat. I can only imagine what the lowers go through....

i just noticed that the custom yellow Honda's I had made for my bike are all orange peeled, and starting to turn black. very nice. the fairings seem to be fine, for now, but i plan to heat tape them this weekend, i have even considered header taping the exhaust also. 2500 miles

DID YOU TAKE THEM OFF AT ALL ? IF YOU DID THERE IS A CLIP IN THE MIDDLE THEY MNT TO AND THAT MNTS TO THEMOTOR IF YOU OVER TIGHTEN IT BENDING IS POSSILBE WHEN I CRASHED MINE IT BENT IT SO SLIGHTLY BUT THE TOLERANCE IS SO TIGHT THERE IS NO ROOM FOR MISTAKE. THE HONDA PART # IS64541-MEL-D30 RIGHT SIDE , 64542-MEL-D20 LEFT SIDE
I had no clips that I recall having any issues with on my '06.

Fan should come on @ 220.

Fyi: If you have factory blinkers it would save you time to do oil change/heat tape/lights/flasher relay all at once.
What's wronf with the lights/flasher relay? Or is that optional if you're going to put in flushmounts?
Optional and easy to do if you have the fairings off. It will blink aftermarket lighting at a DOT rate and make your front/back blinkers flash at the same time.

Anyone know about heat problems with the later manufactured '07's? I want to eliminate this problem before it starts. I know I have the extended warranty, but I do not want to go through the hassle of dealing with my dealer on this type of issue?

If it's anything like my local dealers they'll make you show them some amount of defect before just ordering new lower cowls.

I do think it's worth doing the heat tape thing and I plan on doing that even though my 07 is still fairly new. FWIW I didn't have this issue on my 05 with 5k on the clocks.

if you do get the fairings in (replaced) are you going to have to give up the heat damaged one(s). I have noticed this on the left side (when sitting on) have yet to examine closely on the right.

Normally the policy is....If you have your biked service for a defective part, Honda will replace the defective part, but then they become the owner of it.
