Default Lost 3 HP with Yoshi Slip on on 08....

I was at Race Wars today in lagrange, GA and they had a Dyno there. The guy that was running the Dyno said that his personal bike was a 2008 CBR 1000, just like mine. He stated that his bike, bone stock, had 147.3 HP and a Max Speed of 186.

The only performance Mod I have done to my bike was adding a R77 Yoshi Slip on.

My Dyno reading was 144.60 HP and a Max Speed of 179.2.

That kind of sucks. They were giving away a cash prize for the 1000 cc bike that put out the most HP and my buddy has a Gixxer 1000 (2007) and he was winning when I left with 146 HP. His only Mod was a Jardine Slip on. His Max Speed was 181.

If you didn't dyno your bike before, you have no way of telling what it had! You can't use the other guys bike to compare. On a sidenote, the dyno is reading low, and I'm glad to see the Honda so close to the Suz.

Seems like a dumb contest to me. Dynos have some inherent error, and 3 hp out of 147 is about 2%. Not to mention all of the other variables (environmental and mechanical) - all those bikes are probably close enough in HP that the contest comes down to who gets the lucky run on the dyno when it's error produces a maximum hp number.

The only comparison I have is the other stock CBR 1000. They should all be pretty close out the dealership.

I had the second place reading of the day with that HP reading. Every other 1000 that was on the Dyno had a 141 and 142 HP reading.

What is the error on a dyno machine?

On the street though, my Honda is exceptionally strong next to his Gixxer and I think it has alot to do with the weight difference.

Not true. 2 same bikes, 2 same years, can have some pretty different numbers. There's little allowable variance during assembly process that could result in some that are quite a bit stronger than another supposedly identical bike. It's a crap shoot. That's why some guys talk about blueprinted motors. It's just a motor torn down and rebuilt back to EXACT specifications. An assembly bike has no exacting standards, just a "range" it has to follow into.

I just happen to work on an automotive assembly line, so I know first hand. lol. They are not all the same

Seems pretty accurate for the 08 1K Honda to be right around there. On the other hand, I've seen 07-08 Gixxa's put down 170-180 on the dyno with nothing more than a slip on and a PCIII right in front of me.

The guy running the dyno said the strongest bike he has ran on the dyno was a modded Busa that put down 178 HP.

Not a single 1000cc bike there today even registered 150HP.

Any machine of any complexity at all has error. The only way to minimize this error would be to calibrate the machine in a known environment with a known load. THEN you have to deal with whether or not the machine produces repeatable numbers within those exact same circumstances. You have many potential sources of error, and I doubt seriously that they call don't add up to obscure results within a % or 2.

It would take an exceptional machine, perfectly maintained, to measure small differences like 1-2 HP out of 150-ish and be meaningful.

Thanks...

But the bottom is still...that his bike could not have been very different off the assembly line from mine and even with a aftermarket pipe, his bike kicked out more HP on the same Dyno machine. I dont know if the weather conditions could have played a part or not but I would bet that the conditions were very simular also.
