Default Looking for a helping hand.

Hello, everyone, I am new here to the CBR forums. I actually own a 05 GSXR 1k. Anyways the point is, I love my bike to death, there isn't anything I would trade my bike for the world. So why am I here ? Well ... I cant lie, I enjoy my Honda machines as well ... and therefore I really want to make myself a nice little project bike. I haven't fully defined what or how my project is going to take shape, though I do know it is going to be a CBR and a liter bike. Now my first question is, can someone point me in the right direction or if they have the information them self, is what is are the differences between 2000 - 2007 CBR 1k's ? is there any flaws which I should watch out for in any given year ? this project MAY go into the realm of an extended swing arm ... for a drag bike, I'm not sure, but I need a good base.

thank you in advance.

Julian.

P.S for all you die hard Honda guys, don't worry, I am NOT going to crucify this bike and make a fool of the CBR name !

Well, a quick search of the internet as well as here would have yielded a very good starting point.

00-01 was a 929RR
02-03 was a 954RR
05-07 was a 1000RR.

Those three are quite different. The 929/954 were developed on the 900RR platform, the 1000RR was a very distinct departure from that era.

A 929 has around 121-127rwhp (depending on who you read and what year) but it's LIGHT!!
954 has around 130-132rwhp and while not quite as light, very quick handling and a horrible seat (at best).
The 1000RR has anywhere from 146-160rwhp depending on year of bike/ day it was tested, who you ask, etc. but it weighs more than either of the other bikes.

I have a 2004 1000RR, on this particular model and similar year models i think 04-05 models there is an issue with the charging system, I got stranded on the side of the road at 16,000 miles. Stator fried. but honda replaced the stator and asociated parts for free. they know of this issue and have extended the warentee on these parts. good luck, post up som pictures during the process and the finnished product.

Any parts interchangeable between years you guys know of ?? Also, I was at a bike show recently and unfortunately i didn't have enough time to catch where he got the part. But its a Right side engine cover, with a glass see-through piece in it. The bike must have been a CBR1000 because it had the engine cover exposed from the body work.
