Little Help Please?
So im usually pretty careful about my shifting and such, but at a stoplight i forgot to kick the bike into 1st and was in 2nd. I took off from second and gassed it a little as i was letting go of the clutch and my bike made this loud mechanical sound and lurched forward. I pulled in the clutch immediatly and kicked it into first and went about normally. Any idea if i did any damage to the bike and what happened? sorry for the noob questions but i'm still a bit new to this.
I've got a 07 cbr1krr. Relatively new, still in the break in period have about 160 miles on her.

You probably just lugged the engine is all. Not bad as long as you aren't doing it all the time for prolonged periods of time.
And since you are still breaking it in, remember to take the bike throughout the rev range and not just low down. Briskly take the bike up to redline a few times and slowly roll off the throttle and let it settle back down. (not full throttle, but brisk). This will help with the break-in.

Ahh okay, i figured it had something to do with running in a higher gear at slower speeds. Never happened on the 250's before, i use to be able to take off from 2nd on those things, but those were completely different bikes.
Also thanks for the break in advice, the guys at the dealership told me to keep it under 6 and so for the most part i've been shifting at around 4-6 and varying the thorttle whenever i can. but i will briskly let it rev higher every now and then and let it come down. Also for the most part since i've been driving on surface/local streets i rarely hit 5th, is it crucial that i get it into 6th during break in? I've never delt with a brand new bike before so all of this break in is new to me.

I dont think whether or not you hit 6th is too important.
yeah, dealer will usually say keep it below 6000rpm. Most important part of break is not to run at a steady rpm all the time. I dunno if I would redline it (I didn't) but I did "briskly" go over the recommended 6000rpm a few times for sure. The way I see it is if you keep it below 6000rpm all the time, when it finally is "broke in" and you whomp on it, bike aint really gonna be ready for. get all pissed off and $h1t. Change oil at 600 and your golden :-)
My own personal break in... lol... not saying it's right, but I aint broke a bike yet. Broke in 4 so far.

yea, im being slightly more aggressive with my throttle roll on to make sure i don't stay in any one RPM for too long. Get's a little harder when you hit around 50-60 and it kind of stays in that 5-6K RPM range. But also by doing this i found that "mid-range power" everyone's been talking about. I've been taking it slow because of break in, but after your advice thought i'd let it rev a little faster and now i feel the horsies kick in hard. Burned a porsche on accident doing this, no joke i didn't mean to do it.
