How much does rear tire size matter?
Hello all. I purchased a CBR1000RR last summer. The person gave me a new set of Michelin Pilot Power 3 tires for it. The front tire is the same size. The rear tire is different. Stock rear is 190/50 17. New Michelin rear is 190/55 17.
Is that enough of a size different to notice a performance difference in acceleration? I'm really a 0-120mph type of guy. I never go out trying to top my bike out.
Are there any benefits of a taller rear tire on a sport bike that I have not considered?
I usually wouldn't fret about a small difference in tire size. But last summer when I put new tires on my Raptor ATV, the rears were 1 inch taller and I regret it. But these CBR tires are not measured in inches and I'm not sure the real difference in ratio between a 50 and 55.
Thanks for any opinions! Much appreciated.

It won't make it faster, but it will make it handle different with the rear set a little higher, probably for the better.
The aspect ratio is a percentage of the width. The height is 50% (or 55%) of the width. That 55 is 5% of the width taller than the 50, which is not much but enough to feel a difference.

Thanks everyone for the replies!
I've had a rear pit bull stand for a while. Just got my front stand delivered a couple days ago. I'll be taking the wheels and new tires in soon to get changed over.
I've researched a bit on if installing the new tires could be a DIY project. But for the most part, people say it's not worth the headache.

Of course, if you can find a shop that doesn't charge $50 per tire, it still might be worth it to have someone do it...
so....the difference in tire circumference....
If I'm right 17"*2.54= 43.18cm (sory, I have a problem with Disney units(imperial))
a 190 tire is supposed to be 190mm wide (I'm not the only one having trouble with Disney units) of which 50% = 95mm height vs 55% 104,5mm height.
Ad these to the diameter of the wheel: 43.18+9.5+9.5 =62.18cm diameter
vs 43.18+104.5+104.5= 64.08cm
circumference wit 50 tire is 62.18*3.14 = 195.25cm (76,87")
with 55 tire is 64.08*3.14=201.21cm (79,21")
difference is around 3% in diameter (around 9km/h at 300km/h)
I honestly expected more difference.
