How long?
How long did it take before you could really lean a bike over so there is little to no chicken strips. 1000rr is my first bike and just want to see how well I am progessing. I got 1600 miles under my belt in 3 weeks.. any other info would we cool
You picked one hell of a bike to start off with!
I started out with an RGV 250, and after mainly road riding for a bit over a year, I thought I had the bike all figured out. It wasn't until I went to my first track day, that I found out I was wrong. Suddenly what I thought was 'all the way over' wasn't even close. It's not because I wasn't riding my bike properly, it was because on a normal road, you can only go so far! Usually because of the road condition or camber, or (heaven forbid) other traffic! All I can say is, keep riding - you will never stop learning, be safe, and try a track day at your local, you will learn a lot about your bike there.

you have a 190/70/17 i believe... thats a wide tire.. but perfect for the bike...
I went from a 190 (which the shop that i bought my bike from put on) to a 180, and cut of about a 1/4 inch on both sides... here in vegas, you only have right hand turns that you can drag on... (gettin on and off the freeway) so I headed out of town to some twisties, with better roads, and got the michelin man shaved off my first trip then on the waybak, shaved it off completely...
It has alot to do with the road you are on... there are some roads here that are 4th and 5th gear PINNED turns, cept if you venture to take them that far, you will be sliding on your *** into a barrier cause of the oil and ish on the roads...
Vegas uses wierd asphault due to the heat and dry weather...
Go to the track, and you'll shave off the rim lol..

Reading books only get you so far. Spend the money and go to a track school. There are plenty all over the USA and all have previous or current professional racers. Keeping the bike upright and being safe is a matter of opinion. It all depends what kind of riding you like. I agree though, the road is not really the place to practice dragging a knee, thats what track days and track clubs are for.
