I am starting to consider an R1 myself.

I sold my 06 Sprint ST to come back to Honda
Don't get me wrong , the triumph was an awesome bike.
I have owned them all in my 40 years of riding.
I keep coming back to Honda just for the sheer quality of the machines.
Owned VTR / VFR vetec /Blackbird and CBR1000 all great bikes.
Personal preference

 

0.5- F4-1000R 1+1
1.0 - 1098
2.0 - zx10
3.0 - r1
4.0 - gxsr 1000
4.5 - 1000rr

other bikes are also nice. its just the seating arrangement varies greatly. every thing else is sutble.

 

My last bike was an 05 R1. Before that a 03 GSXR 1K. Before that a 02 Busa. Nice bikes, but the CBR is #1 with me!!!

04-05 zx-10r is the only other id buy.......they are beautiful and i like how the front end dissapears when you turn.

 

I love my Honda but I am also a big fan of Buells even though they're not the greatest bike out there (I don't truely have an opinion as to which is the greatest).
