Default Blade 2010 .... does it have oil consumption issues like 08

Well there you go, does anybody know if Honda have secretly sorted the issue with the 08 blade using the same amount of oil that the Exxon Valdez spilled but on ever annual service ???

I keep hearing the stories of the 08 blade but i don't seem to see any posts from owners of the latest edition ..... is there a fix that we all have not been told about.

I just bout an 10 and the service guy states that nothing at all has changed with the motor or burning of oil issue. He states that some burn oil and some don't? I asked the same question before I pulled the trigger.

I've heard the same, some do some don't. I don't think the issue is as frequent as some would lead you to believe, but it is there. And if you are unlucky enough to get one with issues, your out of luck as Honda has stated time and again there is not an issue and they will not take care of any problems with oil consumption.

is there a fix that we all have not been told about.
If there was a fix, you wouldn't hear about. Honda won't admit there was ever a problem, so they won't announce a fix for something that they have been saying all along isn't an issue. It wouldn't look good on their part. In fact, thats why I think the issue is still there. Honda won't change it for fear of someone finding out they changed something that reduced oil consumption. Could you imagine the lawsuits then?

I've been a Honda rider for a long time. I've seen issues with Honda in the past and they have never once admitted to anything being wrong. thats just the way the company is. Their customer support after the sale is one of the worst I have ever had to experience. It doesn't mean Honda builds bad products, but any mass produced product is going to have issues, and the fact they look the other way is not great for customers. which is also part of the reason you hear about it so much, every single person who has the issue is letting the world know about it because they are pissed about how they are treated. I know when I had issues with my 04 and Honda ignored the issue, the internet was the first place I went. It took a lawyer and over a year for them to resolve the issue. A friend of mine had a similiar issue to mine with his R1 in 04 as well, and Yamaha sent out one their engineers along with a rep. They replaced the engine within 3 weeks. Honda did absolutely nothing for months, then sent out a rep who looked at my bike and then said my issue wasn't that bad. thats when I had to take legal action. Oh, my issue was the bike was blowing blue smoke out the exhaust, and a lot of it. I even had friends complain when riding behind me.

I guess my point in all of this jabber is this: If Honda is building a product that has a potential to have issues, I'm not buying it because I know how they treat their customers if I happen to get a bad one. If there are no issues, I'll be first in line because I know if they get it right, its going to be awesome. But personally, I think this whole issue has really hurt Honda a lot more than they will ever realize. A lot of people in the market for a liter bike will buy other brands. But not only that, people will hear about Honda and oil consumption, and think its all of there products. it can be a real blow to them across the board. I'll never understand why companies choose to ignore their customers.

Ditto the above, i love the new blade but this ... has it.... has'nt it issue is just too much for me, i can not spend that much cash on a bike then have to sell it a month or so later because the seller/dealer had kept quiet about the oil issue (which everyone would do).

They have lost a lot of potential customer buying with this issue, and i agree with you, it's more than i think they understand. The internet now levels the board when it comes to information, and i still dont think Honda fully understand this.

Really all you need to do is check the oil level every so often and add oil as needed. I know it sounds bad, but if you're one that does well maintaining your bike this won't be an issue or should stop you from buying a great bike. I went from an 02 954 1000 and they are day and night.

the (unconfirmed) story as i've heard it, is that honda made a running change to the piston ring diameter about mid-year 08, so the later models are much less likely to have the high consumption issues compared to early production models. however, i have heard some 09 owners complain, so ??

I understand that, but with me covering 10,000 miles a year, i would be putting in 10 litres of oil in a year, not taking into account the cost of that much oil, the effort of doing but what about the engine..... should any engine use 10 litres of oil in a year ..... i am no mechanic but this can not be good for the internals, because if it were, all other manufactures would have designed their engines to burn buckets of oil

Just out of interest, what were the differences between the 954cc and the 1000rr, which do you think is best for everyday riding into work etc, the usual traffice filtering etc... Ta.

Could be, but they may just be late registered 08 bikes, when i bought my current bike, i registered it in 07 but it was made in 05.... not uncommon.

Mine's an early 08, I'm not sure about the 2010's.

Mine started burning at 7k or so, I brought it to the dealer, they documented the burning, honda took care of me, re-ringed the bike, there is a different part # on the rings, and head gasket... ??

The bike has more power now then when it was new, and doesn't use any oil that I can tell from oil change to oil change, but I change oil every 3k religiously.
