Hey y'all. I recently picked up a 2006 CBR1000RR Fireblade and it has some sort of potential wiring issue. The dash lights are giving me some grief. The other day I was riding and the whole dash worked perfectly. Then yesterday the turn signals on the bike and dash stopped working but the dash itself still worked and everything else did as well. Now, when I turn the ignition on everything lights up, but when I turn the high beams on, it kills the dash. I've read some older posts, maybe it's a fuse? Bad ground or wiring? Any insight is greatly appreciated, thanks yall.

 

Update: Just tried starting the bike and when I turn the kill switch to on and try to crank the bike, the dash lights go completely out and the bike cranks maybe once and that's it. It sounds like a battery issue to me but as far as I know the battery is relatively new. Advice?

 

You need to start with a fully charged battery, otherwise odd things can happen.
Rev the bike to c.4-5k and check voltage should be about 14.5vdc, if not battery / RR is first port of call then move on.
If ok, then check all fuses and connectors, they can be liable to corrosion on the contacts.

Hey y'all. I think I may have found something. So I got the battery completely charged up today and tested it and it's a good battery. I tried cranking the bike, and it didn't start. All the dash lights came on now, the high beams work and the horn works, but the turn indicators do not. They come on for a split split second on the dash then go right off. Could this be a blown fuse that's keeping the bike from starting and draining the battery? I can bump start the bike no issue but the turn signals still do not work even if this is done. Any help again is appreciated, thanks.

 

Still sounds like a bad battery. Put some jumper cables on it from a car battery and see then what happens.

if the starter motor won’t fire then either one of the safety circuits is cutting in, the battery is dead, or deeper wiring problems.

eliminate the battery first.

 

Thank you for the response. I will try this tomorrow. I still found it weird that even with the bike running, the turn signals don't work so my initial thought was some sort of fuse was blown inhibiting the bike from starting.

 

I think the indicators are a separate issue, they have nothing to do with the started circuit. When you say you tried to crank it and it didn't start, what exactly is happening.
Did the motor actually spin over but still not start or did it not spin over at all?

 

Yes the motor spins over but just does not start. The fuel pump is priming so i'm good there at least.

 

Not a problem with dash. Turn signal indicator only follows what turn-signals are doing. If flasher-relay is broken or circuit got mangled by LED winker install, then if turn-signals don't work, perfectly OK signal indicator on dash won't work either.
