08 1000rr looks
I understand that Gazza. And it's not that I'm just flaming the new CBR's...I really want to like this bike. everything I read on this says the bike is incredible. I just finding myself "trying" to like the front. (I do love the exhaust and tail). This isn't the reaction I had to the R1 or the Duc 1098. Thos bikes looked radical too, but you look at them and say "damn!" And I do love the 06-07 CBR's. I've walked into OTD cycles 3 times now to sit on the bike and chew it over...each time I walk in I cringe at the sight of those headlights.
Like I said 'each to their own' what ever you decide to do enjoy the priviledge we have being able to go at wharp factor shiiiiiiiiiit !!!!! and stay safe. A contradiction i KNOW BUT YOU GET THE DRIFT.

I personally think Honda made a huge mistake with the design of the new RR. they could take some styling pointers from Yamaha thats for sure.
The new RR is kinda like the butterface girl down the road. She has a tight body, looks great from behind and would rock your world........ just don't look at her face [:'(]...
The same policy applies to both situations. If you can't get past the face, its time to move on..
oh yeah, the 954 looks ten time better than the 08RR.

The new cbr1k looks okay and way better in person. But not good enough for me to want to go out and get one. Not a huge fan of the rounded look. Like the sharp edged look.
They will not change this bike until the next cycle which will be in 2 years or 3. Just look for different color options and maybe some tinkering here and there. The front does not look as bad. But the tail end is small and blunt. It could have been a little sharper, higher anything. It just looks so plane in comparison to the previous model where the tail end had some style.
The kawi zx-10 looks bad *** except the front end. The headllights are ugly and the ram air right in the front looks horrible.
I'll wait for the next GSXR 1000. It should look somewhat like the 09 BMW sportbike.

The biggest thing that keeps bothering me is that I've wanted a CBR for a few years...with the 06 model, they finally look good. My last bike was a 2000 R1, which looked good and at the time had great performance. I started reading about the 08 CBR and was eagerly awaiting the arrival...only once the bike debuted I was horrified. Yes, it might notlook that bad alone, but compared to the rest in the sportbike field...yes it does. Front looks like a retro to the 1989 hurricane.
The only way I can see getting one is for the performance aspect, and then I would get some 2006 CBR sharkskins and customize the nose to fit. And as far as performance...the track times were all too close to tell...even the 5th place R1 had better track times.

In all honesty. The bikes are so close, on the street, you will probably never notice the difference. thats the great thing about the liter bikes (all sportbikes for that matter) is you can almost pick on styling alone with the new crop of bikes. A few tenths of a second and a few hp will be ate up by rider imput. You could have a new liter bike and have someone on an sv650 smoke ya at the track.
When i bought my bike, I almost bought an R1. But for me, I like the way Honda's have always handled. They are the easiest bikes to go fast on. I had the luxury of riding both before I bought the cbr. It was still so close.. the truth is, no one had any R1's around me. But, someone at the dealership who ordered a Repsol backed out and it just came in. I got it for a real good price. If both were readily available, I'm not sure which way I would go. And, out of the 20 or so guy I ride with, 15 of them have R1's...
If I was in the market for a new bike, I'm not sure which way I would go. I'd probably go with a 1098.
Looks shouldnt be on top of anyones priority list, but when all of the bikes are this good, why pick the ugly one?

Sit on one in person and the looks won't matter anymore. The thing feels just about as light as my '07 600rr, butpacks a bunch more power and features!! I see this machinegoing far.
