Exclamation Will a 1987 CBR1000f fairing fit on a 1991 bike?

Sorry to make a whole thread for one simple question, but I couldn't find the answer elsewhere on here or anywhere else, and I've got a limited-window opportunity to buy a non-running 1987 bike with a good fairing that would make a nice match with my running, but body-smashed-to-hell 1991 bike.

Both are 1000's. Does anyone know to what extent the body parts from the 87 will work on the 91?

Thanks guys!!! I may try to own this today!

Come on guys, I'm counting on you for this answer.

To pay for my ignorance, I will offer up parts I don't use in the swap for sale at very reasonable prices to forum members only.

I'm asking for some help here.

You have to treat a MK1 and MK2 as two different bikes when it comes to body work. It would be like asking if you could put a Yamaha fairing on. Sure you can with a lot of work. The simple answer is no, they don't simply bolt up.

Edit: How bad of shape is the '87? Maybe it would be worth getting it running.

It's possible the best way to go is to get the '87 running. I think I may still look at buying the bike. Thank you very much for the information -- I just don't know enough about these bikes yet.

But I own one, and may soon own two. I know what I'll be doing this winter...

You cannot swop fairings without huge work, you can however use the 91 engine in the 87 chassis. I've just been through the whole exercise in reverse, putting a 87 engine in a 90 chassis. Few small swops, but nothing huge. Give me a shout if you need help or search for my other threads which cover it all.

Thank you David that's another reasonable option -- I need to see if I can still get the bike now.
