I'd agree on the battery, it forms part of your ignition circuit, when I had my GSX1400, although it would start, it was always a good sign the battery was on it's way out with a low level misfire and terrible running. Just because it's started using the car battery won't compensate for a knackered battery, either buy a new one or borrow what you know is a good condition battery.

Fresh petrol is also a good idea it it's been stood over a year, petrol has a shelf life and goes stale after so long.

Hope this helps,

Cheers, Steve

OK, it"s working!! I'm also the biggest jerk. Turns out, at some point last year, I reversed two of the spark plug wires (wire 3 was on spark plug 4 and wire 4 on 3).

Thank you all for your advice.

Stay tuned for more threads, I have other small issues.

Default OK... it's finally working!!

And I'm also the biggest jerk. At some point last year (I have no idea when) I inversed two spark plug wires (wire 3 on spark plug 4 and wire 4 on 3).

I was looking at the service manual (downloaded from this site - thanks to Sprock - and my attention got on the wiring. I went to see on the bike and kicked myself.

I feel like an idiot, but I found the problem. Engine running fine (aside from that pesky alternator chain tensioner I know I need to replace but I hate the thought of splitting the engine).

Thank you all for your good advice.

My older brother JK is a very qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer. I take comfort from the fact that even he can **** up the basic stuff, just like the rest of us.

Just goes to show Pobodies Nerfect.
