Default What diameter exhaust for custom setup?

I want to fab up a custom header-back exhaust, but I was wondering what would be a good size for the piping and muffler... it's going to be a single pipe and muffler by the way, on a stock '95 motor with mesh 'filters'.

By the way; are there any aftermarket headers available for the '95?
I've got a '87 bike with a '95 motor by the way, if that makes any difference...

Sorry I dont have any insight on this, but I am wondering the same as I either need to buy a new exhaust for my bike or see if rust can be welded(which it cant, well if its thick enough then maybe), and then I need to re-jet my bike.

There's a place here in the UK that makes stainless headers and full systems for the 1KF

Sandy Bike Spares..... A good product and good service too!

Sandy Bike Spares - Motorbike Exhausts and Brake Disks

And they will ship to outside the UK.

My bike has stainless headers - I went 2mm bigger than standard on the diameter to give better flow. Seemed to work.......
I also run 45mm diameter end pipes with short silencers.
The standard pipes sound wussy by comparison.............

@ shadow
My current pipe is very loud at the moment, but doesn't sound nice... might have to do with the lack of air filters (mesh), but the exhaust is just nasty.
So for reference, do you have a video somewhere, so I can hear how yours sounds?

@ sprock
A set of what, headers or exhaust?
And metric or imperial doesn't matter, I can easily order pipes in sizes from both systems over here, or just get some good ol' US steel from eBay

@ shakey
Too bad Sandy has the wrong pic online for their header (or downpipe as he calls it?), looks like a V4 pipe in stead of for a straight four

Oh nice, much better indeed!
Will have to find out what fits though, as the previous owner shoe-horned a 1995 motor in the 1987 frame... and welded a Ducati 916 rear section onto the frame LOL

Aren't the motors all basically the same? Anyway, they do an alternative set of headers for the FH/FJ model too! I thought the difference between the two was the angles of the exit pipes from the collector box? Maybe I'm wrong???

To be sure; you mean how much the collector angles out and/or up, not the angle of the primary runners coming from the exhaust ports?
