Thinking about a change
So I've been riding the Hurricane for about a month and a half now, and while I love it, I am contemplating something newer. I have an 87, with 15700 miles on it. My question is will a current generation 600 perform as well as my 1000 or will i need to pony up for a 1000 to be satisfied. Weight of the bike is an issue. While i have no trouble handling the cane, i find myself wishing for a lighter bike. I will be trying to get some testing in on a few 600's at local shops. I'm currently contemplating a new Kawi ZX-6R, a CBR600-RR or a GSXR-600(used from a friend) But if you head me off at the pass and point me towards the 1000's it would be much appreciated
New modern 600cc sportbikes are very light and handle great. Yes they make good power, but it's all up in the 10K rpm+ range. Not much in the torque department. On the track they would probably lap a 1Kf, but in real world riding, I love good old torque.
Not to mention riding postition. I'm 6'2" and make a small sport bike look like a pocket bike when I sit on it. I tried a Triumph 675 and my head was over the gauges and the windscreen! I had to look down and bak to see the speedo and tach!
I'll get on the bike and ride for 400 miles in a day too. Try that on a GSX-R or a R6.... [:-]
Make sure that you are buying the bike to match the type of riding that you like to do, not because your buddies all have GSX-R's or ZX6's. Having said that, a well ridden 1KF will easily out pace a poorly ridden 600cc sportbike.

I have to agree with Stray Cat!!!! My Friendrides aGSXR 1000 and he loves it but on a long ride we have to stop every now and again for him to stretch his legs and get some life in them!!! He loves my 92" for her relaxed riding position
I would say make a list of the bikes you fancy, then go out and get a test ride on each. It's the only way to do it (as I previously found out to my cost when years ago I went from a GSXR750 to a RGV250).
You may just find you prefer the CBR. It took me 2 months to fully get used to (and love) mine. Now I would not dream of selling it.

The 87 may feel like a heavy bike but there is a lot of torque in the bottom end you can use. If you want to have fun just keep the revs above 6500 up to the rev limit 10500.They have good brakes and i think there only fault is tyresize on the rear not big enough for the powerthey make.Youshould go for test rides on lots of bike before you change to see if they can compare to the CBRs use ability. For my 88 i will never get rid of it i am looking for another one to strip for a track bike so i can stop flogging it. It is in the trailer for a track day tomorrow. You would be very surprised how fast they are on a track compared to a newer bike if they cant get you in a Conner they need to have a lot of power to bag on the straight.
I have had an issue with the sheer weight of my 96 1KF. I have to wrestle itin traffic. I recently got a 2004 CBR 1000 RR,Repsol colors, which is much much lighter and suits me better, given that I am 5' 6". The riding position for meis more comfortable thanthe hurricane. The wind protection is not as great, given that I had a touring windshield on the hurricane. But the acceleration is phenomenal and the handling is great. I get to 100mph very quickly sometimes without realising it. Ido not know how towheelie but I have had the front wheel come up several times unintentionally. In the 2 months since I gotthe RRI have put 3500 miles on it, which is about one year'smileage I put on the hurricane. That tells how much I love it. I have takentwo 400 mile trips, and while my butt hurts after only150 miles I intend to solve this by getting an aftermarket seat. The bike itself is a joy to look at.Of course Iintend to keep the hurricane.
Im going to test drive and 05 cbr 600 f4i tomorrow after work. 5k miles, listed at $6500, blue book is 6000. So if i like it and i can get the price to an acceptable level the Hurricane may be on sale tomorrow afternoon. I did put 2500 miles on it in a month, I still love it, I just need something lighter for around town.
So what would be a fair price on the new honda? I'm gonna shoot for 6k, and a free inspection. Also gonna ask for documentation on any work they have done since they took it from the previous owner. A full tune up for free would be nice eh?
