temp question
#2
Welcome to the forum....What's seems to be the problem?
There is some info in the Alternative Parts section on replacement parts, fan switch, radiator cap, etc.
These bikes are kind of funny the way the temp gauge reads. Most of the bikes appear to be running hot in the red in traffic but that's normal.

My 88 runs about one quarter of gage normlally, at 3 quarter the fans comes on. One thing you might want to check, if the iner tube in the reseve goes way down to the bottom chances are it will spew coolant for nothing always thinking it is full. Cut it halfway at least si that way the coolant can take expansion without the the tube thinking the resever is way to full, this way you won't loose coolant and there is a good chance that your bike won't spew coolant or run hot for nothing because of lack of collant.
you might want to check the thermostat as well and the o ring in the metal junction, if the o ring is finsihed you will have a pressure leak and the coolant will boil much faster.
Something i foundalong the way with my 88
Have a good day!

Highway speeds, bike runs at around 80C, and in traffic, anything up to 100+C. Fan kicks in at around 90C at a guess. Depends on time of year and other conditions too though.
My gauge runs at about 1/4 on the highway, and 3/4 when the fan kicks in. It NEVER goes into the red, even in 45-48C ambient temps.Hope this helps.

Having both the 1000F and the BB I find them to run very similarly in this area. The bird with the digital temp readout on a cool day runs around 83 degs C when being ridden. I have had her run at 100 C though on a really hot day and that was while riding her. The fan cuts in at 100 C on the BB. Both bikes get very hot very quickly when the air flow stops ie running around town. My 1000F also never goes any higher than 3/4 when in town and never goes above 1/4 out on the highway sometimes lower. I have had the BB run under 80 degs in winter and expect the F could go as low as that to on really cold days. Both bikes run hot but if the coolant is top quality and mixed properly they wont boil. Thats my experience anyway. cheers.
