Hi, your arrow is pointing at the alternator. It is fixed to a shaft that is driven off the crankshaft by a chain. Whent eh engine is running the chain drives the shaft through the chain to turn the alternator to charge the battery. The shaft is also connected to the starter motor (which is underneath the carbs on the other side of the engine) through a small clutch and freewheel gear (so the starter motor turns the engine through the shaft via the chain link to the crankshaft, but the when the crankshaft is turning faster than the starter motor ie when the engine fires, the engine doesn't drive the starter motor). It is rare for noises to come from this shaft - how many miles has your bike done?

She has done 90,000 Kls it only started about 3,000 Kls ago not real loud my wife hasnt even noticed it but I do and any noise shoudl be investigated. Obiously its a bearing as I placed a screwdriver on it and reved the motor and it increases again not real loud jsut enough to what to know what it is. Now if I was to replace this do you thin its an easy job ???

Does your electrical system charge properly? I know on an automobile altenator, the brushes on the inside could be worn. On cars there is usually a bearing or a bushing on the inside also. Either of these things could be making the noise you're describing.

That noise is odd today doesn't seem to be as loud took it for a run this morning gave it what for ( Make or Break ) and the motor seems to be quieter ?? and it is purring like a kitten then still seems a small noise but now sounds like it could be a chain I wonder whether it could be a worn Cam Chain or Cam Chain guides ???

Trips thats the strange thing it doesnt get worse ??? it seems as to louder after I have been for a ride than when you have started first thing in the morning and all warmed up, will keep a watchful eye on it. I fisrt heard this noise back in Tamworth and that was about 3,000 Kls ago, my wife says what noise ( Typical Women ) so it mustnt be that noticable, will see when I go back to work tommorow if the lads say anything like what that noise or something like that.
