Default RE: Stock Exhaust VTR 1k or Yammy R1 Cans??

Long time ago, my friend took me toan old Harley Davidson motorcycle shop. They were restoring old Harleys. For re-chrome or custom paint is pretty expensive, so what they had been doing was peeling of the chrome and polished the surface of the metal. And then, finished with heat proof clear coat. That was looking more like nickel chrome and pretty cool.[/align]

good idea - yeah the chrome VTR1000 cans prolly won't suit a '90 CBRF... I had thought of getting them bead blasted back and either painting or covering with something... depends on how they turned out I guess.

The outside of the muffler gets hot but not so hot that they use a special paint. That's also why the paint tends to change colors, darkeningslightly, on older bikes.

Have a paint supplier match one of the body panels that's the same color and just repaint with straight enamel. It's also why the paint down under the covers is different, just black, and may look to be brushed on. They DO get hotter there, just not on the outside of the muffler can.

I'm not sure if the newer two part, clear coat urethanes will stand more heat than regular enamel but a paint shop or search may answer that. I used plain enamel in years past on other bikes. Hope that helps.

If you take a magnet to it and it sticks its is steal, if you can't its probley alluminum. Most likely aluminum "or" plastic!. If you want give it a little scratch in a spot you cant notice. Steal when scratched won't gouge as deeply or leave an almost chrome like mark behind.
