Speedo issue

Speedo issue
The issue is, is that it is inop. I'm not sure if I am putting the gearbox on to the front wheel properly. I have a 1000 H model that doesn't have the drive gear. The Haynes book really isn't too specific as to the installation of the gearbox to the wheel. Any help?
Thanks
Ryan
Thanks again too for the brake solution, I just decided to tear it all apart and clean it anyway.

RE: Speedo issue
Up against the dust seal is a retainer (which mates with the gear)which the speedo gear sits in (ensure that you dontput to much grease in). Make sure that the cable follows the right route and that both ends are locked into the right places.
To test..... 1st, the gear with cable attached, spin the wheel and check that the cable is turning.
2nd. place the cable into the speedo and turn with a med speed drill and clocks should work.
Hope this helps

RE: Speedo issue
I have the retainer behind the seal but it seams to me as if the prongs of the retainer are not making contact with the gear causing the inner cable not to turn. The retainerisflush against theinside of the hub, is there supposed to be a shim or something behind the retainer, there's a lot ofspace between the two? But I'll give what you suggested a shot, I apreciate it.

RE: Speedo issue
Did you take the gear off yourself? If so you would have noticed that the speedo drive plate sits behind the grease seal, and when you look inside the gear, you will see where this plate fits in. Now it may well be that the cable has'nt seated properly, so you need to disconect the top end, and reconect. I had this problem when I was rebuilding mone. You will however have to spin the front wheel very hard to get it to read on the clocks. Also have a close look at the needle, just to see if it has jumped up on the holding pin at zero.
