Default My bike leaks gas!

So after my bike is parked for awhile, I notice theres a small spot on the ground on the left side, about directly underneath the fuel shutoff switch where gas has leaked. It isn't a huge amount, but certainly noticeable. I was wondering if any one knew where this could be coming from? I haven't had the time to take it apart and check anything yet. It recently had some carb work done on it, so maybe it has something to do with that, like some hose isn't clamped correctly or something? Also, when it's cold, I have to crank over on it for about 10 seconds before it'll start. I was thinking that might be because there's no gas in the carbs so it takes awhile to fill them back up?

The carbs have a drain screw, check they are tight (dont overtighten though).

I cant see any leaking on my 87, but I can smell a stronger fuel smell than normal. Are those carby drain screws at the bottom of the carby and are they hard to get at with a screw driver

Have a look at the petcock switch as if its not had much use then the rubber seal can dry out. The best cure that I have found for this is to drain the tank, and place 2-3 ltr of diesol in and with your thumb over the out let opperate the switch for several mins so that the seal gets soaked. Also check the fuel pipes leading upto carbs and look at the float bowls at the bottom of the carbs.

Hi Nelson,

I too had petrol leaking from my bike. Found it to be leaking from the fuel tap. If you run your finger under the face plate of the tap you may find this is where it is weepimg from. I found that the rivets that hold the face plate on the tap work loose and it is just enough to allow petrol to leak. What I did was remove the tap from the tank and drill the rivets out and all the way through(these rivets are in a blind hole) use a 1mm drill. I then redrilled it with a 3mm drill and used two 3mm x 25mm nut and bolt with spring washer to hold it together. It worked a treat.

Cheers
