Slight Knock/Rattle when engaging 1st gear
Hello,
Well I just bought an 1988 cbr 1000F, So far loving the bike. yet when I engage first gear and begin to release the clutch I hear some sort of knocking sound comming from under the bike. it seems to be in lower rpms, and dont notice it through the rest of the gears. it doesnt seem too major yet, but something I def. cant ignore, any suggestions? thanks all!

Sounds like it could be clutch basket-related - only happens going into 1st from neutral ?
Is the clutch slipping at all ? Maybe clutch springs are not all pushing with same tension, causing problem from a standstill ?
Maybe a worn gear selector ?

Yea it only seems to be 1st from neutral, doesnt seem like the clutch is slipping. once clutch is realeased and rpms start build the noise goes away. its just seems pulling off the line from standstill, I hear it.
I just realized my clutch fluid is low, do you think this would have something to do with the sound? Sounds easy, just go down and buy dot4 fill it up and see what happens. yet the bike is my only transportation, and the nearest store that has it in stock is 20miles away. Yea I live out in the sticks... I have dot3 but dont want to use something other then its called for. I assume it'll hurt something?
oh yea, and why would it be low? I dont see a leak, kinda curious how i'd loose fluid if I dont see something leaking. thanks!
Wow! It is 2014 and this is still useful info. After adjusting the chain I was still getting the rattle. Cleaned and lubed the chain and everything is good. Thank you.
