Default 'shorty' can???

i downloaded some info/specs instructions re: making muffler shorter by cutting, repack, weld etc from a streetfighter site, does anyone know the pros and cons of doing this. i kinda like the look...
i guess you lose a little weight, although not much i assume judging by the amount the can is shortened, will it make the bike to noisy? affect tune? anything else anyone can think of???

I just got the October issue of Motorcycle Consumer News today, and the Editor, Dave Searle had a good article about pipes. He says the bikes that leave the showroom floor with shorty exhausts, have them replaced for track use. The longer tuned length ones, especially ones that come out under the seat, have a broad rideable powerband. Too short, and the pipe may only work at high rpm.
