So, my older brother bought a CBR1000FL of the 1990 vintage about 20 years ago. Rode it around for a while, got ferried home on a recovery truck a couple of times before losing interest, parking it up in his garage and moving on in life.
Kids, divorce and a house sale later, he rediscovered why he had a big cover in the garage, taking up space!
So after some negotiations I bought it.
It's all there and in surprisingly good condition. Some stuff needs love obviously. Brakes stuck on, carbs gummed up, no MOT since 2011......
She's a beauty!!
Carbs can be cleaned, hoses replaced, etc.. The next to impossible thing to replace are the farings and those appear to be in grand shape.
Thanks. She's not in bad nick really. Considerably better looking at 34 years old than I was! 😂
Carbs have been cleaned of gunge, jets replaced as I got it to run for a bit (need to change the oil and filter before going for a heat cycle).
Calipers need rebuilding all round and someone has fitted braided hoses so that's a bonus. 👍
Very pretty - this was the poster model for the launch in the UK. Original exhausts as well - mine didn't last 6 years riding the British roads in winter...Rebuild the brake and clutch master cylinders - the parts kits are still available, but who knows how long for.
Grab yourself a VFR750 adjustable brake lever, and do a coil-on-plug conversion once you get everything else sorted.
