It's a north american name. It's made by shell oil, though, who also makes the Rimula brand of diesel oils.
What I would do is ask shell what Rimula product is equivalent to Rotella T.
Or you could try and find the Rimula that is for multiple uses (gas/diesel, etc) and one that has a very similar tech sheet.

Guess what Trout .........I was too damned lazy and Holiday Traffic so bad I went
to my local NAPA and grabbed 5 quarts of NAPA 15W 50 Full Synthetic instead of
Rotella T..........gonna see how this stuff does. Manufactured by Ashland Industries
Kentucky..........hope it's as good as the Bourbon that comes out of there ....lol

That's cool. I'm still running the Rotella T.
I noticed at wally world today that they have cases of Rotella back in stock. I was worried for a bit when they ran out of cases.
The cases are $31 for 3Gals.... can't beat that!
It's on sale at Advance Auto right now, too, for $9.99/gal.
Rotella T synthetic is $23/$25gal. I was thinking about running it, but I'm cool with the regular stuff.
On the Rimula thing... I wasn't sure which one to really recommend. There is a little controversy over ash content and possibly other additives? You'd have to read up on it and check the specs.

I've tried to find out wich Shell oil was the equivalent to the Rotella T, and turns out that formula is exclusive to USA and Mexico. I live in Argentina and we get the Rimula, but I shared a couple of emails with a local Shell representative, and he told me that I'd rather use their motorcycle specific oil, that the Rimula has some additives not good for the clutch plates.
