For a modern replacement for the Hurricane I'd lean towards the Busa
too just for the pure "oh ****" of it all, also like the K1300S & ZX14 but the Busa
has the best of everything over the others .....
and then of course for plain tooling around and getting stoooopid the
S1000RR is #1 for a pure adrenaline pumpin' sportbike.

hers is my advice, stick with the cane.
I have tried a sat1050, same feeling as the cane on the rode, the cane has more power and same torque, Ninja 1000sx, great motor great ride, i don,t like the position too straight up and i thougth the cane was vibrating,, cbf1000, mmisses the soul and the esay going of the cane,
I ewould go for a blackbird, but would stick to the 1000f if i find one. it is an incrideble bike for the year of the desigfn and like shadow said, Honda missed because the cane and the blackbird were cult bikes....and the vfr1200 has not not the soul of the both, a lot of magazines are calling for the successor of those two ladies!

The best thing you can do is test ride some bikes. Dealers here in the UK will give you a test ride if you're serious about buying the bike, some will make a small charge for insurance, but at least you can get some saddle time before you shell out your hard earned $$$ At least go to the showroom and sit on as many bikes as you can, to try them on for size and comfort.
If I wanted a newer bike I'd go for the Blackbird, the Hyabusa is BUTT UGLY!!![Big Grin](https://cbrforum.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Though it sounds like you want to loose the weight, in which case I'd go for one of the newer CBR600's.
I'd never buy new, depreciation is just too heavy, there are plenty of 1-2 year old bikes out there with no faults, but their owners just want the newest shiny toy. Let them take the depreciation hit and you can save a bundle of cash!

I rode my Hurricane home tonight and there was a stretch of road that was crawling with sunday drivers and no on-coming cars.. opened her up and past 20 cars in one flick of the wrist... i smiled and thought.you really are a good thing.

I've decided to take a bit of all your advises guys...
1. be patient and don't jump the gun.
2. go and try some bikes at dealerships and get a feel.
3. maybe not a brand brand new one maybe an 2009 - 2007
4. if not racing on track then dont go too sporty and racie.
5. dont lock in to high finance for a new bike that will depreciate so quick.
6. if I did decide to buy a new one I would try and get a better deal for my cane which is in descent nick - dealer said without seeing it would only give me up to 1k for it - im sure I could find someone who will love her and prepared to pay 2k or more.
Things that are annoying me about the cane right now.
front is starting to dip too much when front braking.
I can feel a little knock in the steering bearings when I front break.
when im tired and in traffic.. the bike feels like it weighs a ton
when im inching through traffic very slowly the engine/carbs feels like it stuttering
the lights dont light up the road at night can barely see anything
suspension must be gettin old cause I feel every bump and hole on the ground
good things...
if I dont have to stop - she is as smooth as
power is awesome
weight good for when wind tries to blow me over
synched the carbs and more responsive and crisp - except when inching slowly through traffic.
comfortable sitting position.
love the sound especially when past 5000rpm
can double a pillion comfortably.
The funny thing is we can all go mad about bikes but without a drivers licence we are all screwed or even worse fall and injure ourselves.
stay cool and upright all

but i think that's the point... the hurricanes are not outdated..not in conceptual design.. best bikes ever built.. money to restore her gradually might be a better investment i believe..no finance and still have a good ride.

Go down a tooth on your front sprocket ..........easier to maintain crawl speed in traffic.
Get a set of 41mm vfr bars .....again easier to ride with
Buy a set of Silverstar H4's and mod to fit.
Find a late model used rear shock on Ebay under a 100 bucks
Just quick fix cheaper ideas to make your life easier quickly
Also at some point you could put upgraded springs and or spacers in your
front fork tubes and of course new steering head bearings will take that knock
out when breaking.
All called on going maintenance which can be done throughout the year
but I chose to do most of this stuff in the depths of winter for obvious reasons
My opinion for what it's worth is--- financing bikes is not a "great" idea !

Sprock, your advice is golden. You got me thinking about VFR bars for my bike, and sprockets as well. First, I gotta get my brakes up to snub. It would be cheaper and easier to put $2G into an existing bike then $7-17G into another one. All in all, the Hurricane is a great bike.
yes.. thanks sprock.. I too appreciate your list of do's the first thing I will tackle is the steering bearing.. gonna try and do it myself (sounds a little complicated though) in the manual picture. do i have to remove the forks also for steering bearing? also not sure what you meant by VFR BARS is that replacing the existing handle bars? Thanks for the pointers - I will study them up and make a plan to tackle them one by one.
cheers sprock

Commonly know around here as the section search button ![Wink](https://cbrforum.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)
But hey Malbo has a good howto on making the required socket
necessary in the How Section....... he's a very experienced member.
Well take the fork off is subjective .... you don't take them apart but
you do separate at the steering stem so you can drive out the bearings.
(if you ever done axle bearings ....pretty much the same thing) but the
steering stem nut is the issue and as I said Malbo ....makes it easy.
VFR Bars check the latest threads plenty of pics etc and also make
sure you don't get early pre 1990 VFR 750 bars .....they're too small
only fit 39mm for tubes our bikes are 41 mm tubes so I think it's
90 to 96 VFR 750's that have the 41mm ones. One I got were from a
1992 VFR 750 and got 'em as a pair for 50 bucks.
My 1990 needs a steering stem bearing job too but it can wait until
January
....... hoping Malbo will rent me his "SuperSocket"
