Question Replacing primary chain and tensioner

OK here is a question I have been pondering and would like the input of forum members who have much more knowledge and experience than me.
Its come time for my old girl to have the primary chain and or tensioner replaced.
Its only got 51k on the clock and I'm planning a long trip in June.
Now here is the thing....... I understand the cases have to split to change the tensioner and primary chain, and in order to do this one has to remove said engine form bike and take a whole lot of components off.
BUT...... is it possible to split the cases without removing the head and barrels ?
I would rather leave these alone as they are not giving any problems and I'm keen to avoid unneccersary work !
Can it be done by flipping the engine on its back and gaining access fron the underside of engine alone ?
I'm probably just barking up the wrong tree here but I thought if anyone knows then they will be on this forum.

The Cam Chain and tensioner can be changed without splitting the cases, or removing the engine from the frame.

You need to use the D.I.D. cam chain with a split link, there is a 'How To' in the 'How To' section

Not difficult, but read the thread, some good tips in there

Ok, so now we're all on the right track, we need to backtrack a little bit; Lagoona, what is it that brings you to the conclusion that you're up for a new primary chain?

Just bear with me here; let's all get the diagnosis right before he goes splitting the crankcase, nobody likes to do that, it'd probably be more fun just to go and buy a Gixxer.

Neither the primary chain or the tensioner can be done without splitting the engine.
The best person to ask would be HenryM, or check the "how to" section.

I think the most important thing here is that we get the diagnosis right before Lagoon goes into major tear down mode.

I had major crunchy kind of issues just before Xmas - low battery voltage.
