I think the best option if it fits is to just do an engine swap for the moment. I can actually do this myself 
- Well I get it to the last bolt and then have my brother help with the lifting. I have done this before.
This will mean I can get the head of and replace / repair at my leisure. There is a decent welding place not far from here, so I guess they may be able to do it :-)
I pick the bike up on saturday, so I will know more then !

Still think there would be less work if you ride the 87 and sort out yours - then turf the 87
