Remember me lol and some Qs as well :-)
Hi Guys - long time no see!
A brief catch up on what I have been up to over about the last 9 months.
Got made redundant - took a chance and went over to Delhi India for a few months to do some training (Spent ALL my savings and redundancy money). Anyway - The gamble worked and I have now got a decent job and can start paying the bills again
On to the Bike lol....
Been off the road for way too long due to a knackered engine and it is now time to sort out.
I have a a 91 which is in great condition apart from the engine (Bike has done 28k miles or so.
I have been offered an older 87 which is is in great condition - but (With apologies to the owners of that year) the body style just doesnt do it for me.
So my questions are.....
plan A Will my plastics just transfer over to the 87?
plan B Will the 87 engine fit into my 91?
The 87 really is in good nick 30k miles one owner and been garaged all its life.
of course this does mean I'm gonna be back to bothering you all again

What CAN be done and what is worth doing are two different things.
The 91 plastics would be a PITA to graft on to an 87 bike. ALL the mounting points are in different places.
Other issues are the small wheel/tyre combo on the 87 bike ( only a 3.5" rear wheel )
I think it will also be difficult to drop the 87 motor in to the 91 but have never tried.
Is your motor so bad that it can't be sorted out to run well ?
Early Blackbirds are now sensible money - do you not fancy turning to the dark side - haha
I'm sure the good bits of your 91 bike would fetch good money.

I have enough tools here to cover almost any task.
A head swap is childs play - I thought you were talking of a TOTAL stripdown and rebuild.
Sorted

Find a local alloy welder and have the stripped hole filled - then re-drill and tap it.

ah right - it was the splitting that was bothering me.
That Engine was a good find - its payday next week, so if a head doesn't turn up then I will grab that engine its even close enough to go pick up! - I take it a 94 will go in then ? it looks the same lol
As for finding the alloy welder..... i may do that one day but for the moment I can start to smell the spring arriving and its been WAY too long.
Can you believe I took her off the road just after the trip we had down to The Ace ?
Your always bailing me out bud :-)
Pity about the 87 though - I was getting the whole bike for 500gbp! (Mates rates)

( Get a haynes manual or better still - try to find a honda works manual )
Yep - I remember the exhaust blowing on the way back from Ace Cafe - you were going to do it almost straight away.
Help costs nowt but a bit of time - If I can't find some time to help out a friend & fellow biker then it's time to have a serious word with myself.
Like you the 87 never did anything for me - strangely enough the later models arn't to my taste either. Good price though.
I think the 90 - 92 bikes in the red/white/blue scheme were the best looking version.
Still wouldn't give up my blackbird now that I have moved to the dark side - haha
EDIT - Have a chat with the place selling the engine - i have just spotted that it says US IMPORT

Hey Harry, nice to hear from you mate, long time no see!
Can't help with the questions, but I would have thought the quickest and most cost effective way would be to fix what you've already got, though I can understand the urge to walk away. But at 28K she's barely run in, would be a shame to waste it
Anyway, glad life's back on track for you mate, stay in touch
