Default Rear Calipers

Hi Guys , not been around for a while , had my mind on other things, health things, Well after surgery and other stuff i'm getting back into sorting my bike out, just hope i get a chance to ride it.

Now i was dismantling the rear wheel to put on a new tyre, in the process i clean and scrub all the buts. Well i got to taking the pads out and behind the primary pad, where the 2 pistons, however i was expecting the pistons to be... look at the picture and tell me whats going on because i have always seen the pistons the other way round.

any help?

I think that's how they come from the factory. If you remove them, you'll find that the rear end is the usual flat surface.

It does look strange, though.
