Radiator expansion/overflow tank help
Finished replacing the coolant in my bike last week when today I noticed coolant dripping from under the bike at idle while doing a carb sync. Engine was hot but radiator fan was cycling as normal and keeping engine cool. This has never happened to the bike when doing a carb sync before. I opened the overflow tank lid and noticed that there is no tube from the underside of the lid going down into the bottom of the tank. I thought that a coolant pickup tube was required for the coolant to be sucked back into the bikes cooling system when it cools down. Had a look in the Haynes manual and on page 0.10 there is a picture of the expansion tank lid in a fella's hand with no pickup tube on the underside either. Am I missing something here or have I just drunk to much coolant. Any help appreciated. Kind Regards

No coolant tube from the top- so carry on drinking coolant - you're fine !
You probably overfilled the expansion tank slightly - if you do these bikes will spit it all over the road.
Nothing to worry about, just make sure it doesn't happen again.
Make sure no air in the system too......

On my 93 cbr1000f the tube from the outside of the rubber lid is just an overflow tube. Another tube (return) that runs To the neck of the radiator is attached to the lowest point on the recovery tank. Hope this helps.
P.S.
When I got my bike several months ago,and while undoing all previous errant maintenance/ repair by previous owner , the return nipple on the bottom of recovery tank was totally plugged with something very durable. I finally used a heated round metal rod to create the opening in the plasic nipple. Been working fine ever since.

Thanks for replies, but I now feel like a kangaroo with its tail chopped. Just chased the hosing through properly and didnt see the damn hose on the bottom which is the one going to the radiator. Talking about ones stupidity all over the web. I'm staying off the coolant for a while and drink some water.
