Question about 1992 model
Well since mine's a 1992 I was wondering what's the story behind this model, since that year alone there wasn't an US version, just the japanese/european was available, anyone knows if there was any reason to it?
Also the VIN tag is in english, german and french, but mostly french (check pic), as there's another sticker on the other side of the frame, in french, with specific noise pollution info, the speedo is in KM as well. The model tag shows 1000FN.
Another thing I'm not exactly sure is if the exhaust pipes are factory standard, replacements, or someone had the original chromed, along with the side covers of them?

Pipes are non-standard, originals were painted, chrome sections on the shrouds were painted also, not chromed.

RE: Question about 1992 model
Ola Daniel !- If you give me the engine and chassis numbers, I'll see if I can find out where they were meant to go from the factory. I suspect Europe, but I'll check. As I mentioned in my last, the pipes look to have been shortened slightly, to give more growl......
Also in 1992, according to Haynes, no models were produced, I suspect beacause the new model appeared in 1993, and with the shape being different, they may have felt there was a potential for lost sales, after the news had leaked out that a new model was coming.......this is however just a rumour.....I believe all the so-called 1992 models were in fact, 1991 models. Paint schemes also differed, depending where the bikes were to be sold, for example, the California Hurricane, with the distinctive, Blue/silver paintwork, was a special "low emissions" model, with reduced horsepower, produced specifically to comply with California's emission laws.Attached pics of two N models from 1992.

RE: Question about 1992 model
First generation Hurricaines were from 87-89. Smaller compact body work, single headlamp etc.
Second generation (yours) were from 90-92. Body work is changed, front blinkers are extended to divert some of the wind from the hands, the swingarm is lengthened, there is a change in the wheel sizes andsmall change in the size of the carbs for better mid range response & a change in the rear sprocket size.
Third generation were from 93-96 & had a change in body work, better aerodynamics, mass centralization, change in rear sprocket & a change in the carb sizes for better top end performance.
Your exhaust pipes appear to be stock unit that are chromed. Very nice looking bike.
I may be wrong on some of this data but this is what I have gleaned from the US press magazines in my 18 year ownership.
YMMV,

RE: Question about 1992 model
1992 models could be 1991's with different color schemes for that year, that's a possibility.
Indeed, pipes look stock, either they're factory chromed, or someone took them apart and chromed them. Is there any way to tell if they're original or not? some writing, weldings, or something?
Here's a pic to check that they aren't shorter, but exactly the same length as the black ones.
Peter just sent you a PM with the frame and engine numbers.

RE: Question about 1992 model
They appeared to me to be a little shorter than standard models, certainly not much in it though, so yes, they may be stock, and if so there should be serial numbers stamped on the boxes somewhere, unless the chrome work has removed them. The boxes are definitely different from the 89/90 models, which were much longer, reaching back almost to the edge of the tyre, and the tailpieces are different, too......If they had been cut to dismantle them, and were then reassembled, they would lose a little in length and it may account for my thinking they were shorter....
Details of engine and chassis number search sent by PM, Daniel.
