Default power difference

I have done a search in the forum and no straight answer. According to bikez.com, 87-91 have 100hp and 92 and up have 135hp. So would this lead me to believe the 92 and up have better acceleration and throttle response?

Not that much better - I think the early bikes had different gearing.

The unrestricted CBR1000F had 132hp and nothing else no matter what year.
In some countries it was restricted down to 100hp and in some other countries to other hp values. But it is an easy fix to get the stock 132hp. Just cut or grind away the more narrow ring inside the intake rubber. For some of you it was also restricted in some other way. I think it was the exhaust that was manipulated
The early bikes (1987-1988) had 17/43 gearing and a little less weight, and the later had 17/42 and some kilos more to drag around.

I heard the opposite. The "true" Hurricanes(87-88) had slightly more hp than the later models. The 90's era models were tuned more for sport touring. I would tend to think this was true as I never had a problem pulling away from a later model 1kf despite my extra weight(I weigh around 220 lbs).

The specs I've seen have the earlier models with less HP, and very slightly more weight. Most of the specs show the earlier models (with fluids) at about 577lbs or so. The later model specs show dry weight mostly, at 518lbs. If you add 5.8gals of gas and a gal of oil, you're up to about 561lbs (without coolant/brake fluid/etc). So...they weigh the same.

I'm not sure if the later HP ratings were crank HP and the earlier at thewheel, but it's possible I guess. I don't see how most of the specs for the earlier ones are showing 100 vs. 135 on the newer models. That is a pretty big diffeence that doesn't seem to show on the street.

These bikes are essentially the same, no matter what year, so the differences are very slight. So slight (from what I've seen), that the difference between me beating shadow, and him beating me is that my carbs are better tuned, I'm running higher octane, and he ate amammoth cheeseburger for dinner (with large fries, and two candy bars, and 3 quarts of beer).

My guess is that if you are regularly beating either a newer or older model with yours, the other rider isn't giving it enough throttle or weighs 400lbs.
I have a 1995, and I've ran a 1990 many times. He is a good bit smaller than me (I'm about 215lbs). Verdict? Toss-up.We are very evenly matched. There is really no way to tell. If you get the jump, or hold it longer, you win.

Anyone ever match up to an FZ1? The numbers on paper are pretty close to the same and I imagine it would be the same scenerio as the different model Hurricanes.

I have had a fewspiritedruns with a two year old FZ1 (some guy from the neighborhood) on the expressway from a green light and the FZ can leave quicker and walk away from me every time. The FZ has around 10-15 more HP (probably a little more torque too) and weighs quite a bit less. I'm at least 40 lbs heavier than this guy, but I think his bike is just faster, period.[:@]

No slight to the 1kf!! My bike is a dinosaur compared to the FZ and I can hang with him just fine, plus my bike looks so much better!! That tells me Honda did something right with the 1kf!

FWIW, the Haynes manual lists wet weights for the different models , for 87-88 at 551 lbs (250kg), for 89-92 at 593 lbs (269 kg), and 93 on at 602 lbs (273kg). These are US 49 state specs, their listed UK weights are a little lower and Califonia models are a little higher.

I've got scales at work. I'll just pull up on 'em tomorrow morning, and ask the nice girl what I weigh. Now I have to know....

Kilgore, you're dreaming........I'd still run you ragged after the cheesebuger, candy bars and beer - even with my untuned carbs..........
