Pilot screw broken in the carb
#11
new carbs just got here....buuuuuuut?!?!
The carbs I ordered just came got here since one of my carbs had the broken pilot screw. I was ready to disassemble and clean them and I noticed this odd screw head or cap on the pilot screw. Anyone have an idea of how to get these out? Are these original, or aftermarket pilot screws? I'm getting ready to open the carbs up and I noticed none of the screws are beatup.....every carb I've seen I've had to place the fuel bowl and top screw due to being stripped from bad screw drivers...but these are all perfect...which I hope is a good sign.

I did pick up the 1987 1000 hurricane last night and it does need the cam tensioner replaced, carbs rebuild, cable lubed, tune up, and new chain. When I test rode it yesterday all the gears were smooth, engine was strong...minus carb hesitation. I will post some pics few soon of my new 1987 1000 Hurricane and the 1993 blk/red/gry CBR 1000F

Hah you need the motion pro D socket for all MK3 carbs 93->
cheapest here
or if you are into AR 15's you can take a .223 round casing and shape it to fit

Well I picked up a 1987 1000 Hurricane yesterday, soooo I'm about to find out how difficult it'll be after I finish with the 93's carbs The owner did throw in sync pro carb tuner so I will be getting the carbs sync'd after I get more of the mystery blue liquid that spilled out on the old owner.

Well good news!!! I located a .223 shell and after some entertaining pliers work I was able to unscrew all 4 "D" socket pilot screws, and then my roommate had a dremel and I used it to make screwdriver grooves and it works perfectly!!!! I plan on putting the carbs back on a taking some pics before I start work on the 1987 1000 Hurricane I just bought. PLUS my roommate has a grinder and I think I can grind down a harder metal pick or probe and push out the broken brass tip in the old cabrs...then I can sell them. I reeeeeeeeally appreciate all the great advise everyone gave me.
